Eleventh Grave in Moonlight by Darynda Jones

What was most disappointing about Darynda Jones’s story? And in this one she- SPOILER- walks around with a child searching for fanatics with guns! And while she may be able to protect the child in the abstract, she just came out of a similar situation and only until Reyes tells her the same thing he was telling her a chapter or two ago does it even partially click. She has to be stabbed, murdered, or family and friends have to be seriously hurt or die for her to get the basics. These books are written from her perspective so we are taking in the same information. In each book, people tell her enough that I, as the read, can put the pieces together and realize what she is capable of, but she doesn't. In each book and this one especially, it seems the character doesn't value herself. While Charlie has an Anita Blake way of growing- gaining powers- it still leaves her lacking because she doesn't seem to grow as a person or have much of a brain. Both characters are made for fun adventure, however for a series and one that occasionally gets serious, if the characters don't grow- don't learn- then you are writing the same book over and over again. I've listened to every book in this series and realized by book two how similar this character is to Stephanie Plum and not in a good way. I started this review with two chapters left because I just couldn't not after finishing chapter 19. Warning- brief spoiler at the end of the paragraph.
